![]() Udder Warts |
|
I think that this is a topic requiring a lot of discussion. Udder warts are a problem here and elsewhere. The warts often lead to a tumor like growth which advances to the point the goat (usually a very good milker) has to be destroyed. At this stage I have not had the warts appear on a goat with a dark skinned udder (black or brown) but they have occurred on udders that are pink or pink with dark spots and also on tan udders. Sometimes they occur during the first lactation and in other goats they occur later in life. They seem to grow rapidly in the summer months and slow down in winter. It would also seem that the bigger the udder the faster the growth and multipying of the warts. I have been told that when burned or frozen off by a vet, the warts rapidly returned. I have yet to hear anything positive about having a vaccine made up out of the wart material to give the goats, apparently unsuccessful as well. Does anyone know what can be done about the warts? Is this a problem found more in warmer climates? Email me or use the forum to let us hear what you may know about this problem.
